Welcome Back!

First Day of School, Tuesday, September 5 The first day of school is Tuesday, September 5th, and will start with only 6th graders and our 8th grade WEB leaders. Our WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) program helps students transition to middle school through engaging activities led by 8th grade student leaders. In the morning, 6th graders and 8th grade WEB leaders will be the only students on campus as they participate in WEB activities. The morning will include a welcome assembly, community-building activities, and a tour of our campus. Our 7th and 8th grade students will arrive in the afternoon for shortened class periods. Below is some important information: *6th graders will catch their bus at the normal time and arrive at Tolt for the start of school at 8:25am. Breakfast will be available for purchase in the Bear Den (MPR) as it normally is in the mornings when students get off the bus. There will be a 30-minute lunch scheduled for all 6th graders and 8th grade WEB leaders. *7th and 8th graders will catch their bus 4 hours later than normal for a 12:25pm start time. This means that if the bus normally picks a student up at 7:38am, the bus will pick them up at 11:38am on the first day of school. Lunch will be available for purchase in the Bear Den when students get off the bus similarly to how breakfast is served in the mornings. 7th and 8th graders should not arrive on campus until at least noon as their day will not start until 12:25pm. We are extremely excited about our first day and hope your student is excited, too! Student Schedules and Fab First Days Student schedules have been released in Skyward. Staff will assist students in finding their first period classes on the first day, and students will receive a printed schedule and directions in their first period class. Tolt staff are committed to welcoming our students back and helping them feel connected, safe, and supported. For the first days of school, students will have some consistent lessons and experiences in their classes. Our focus is on connection and community building and sharing pertinent information and expectations about the Tolt Way. By providing students with uniform activities and information, we hope to create a strong community foundation and to support the success of each and every Tolt Bear.

As you review your child’s schedule, please make sure that they have a complete schedule with the correct core classes (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science).

For issues with schedules, our priority is making sure students have complete schedules, and the correct core classes. For example, first we address issues such as:

  1. If a student doesn’t have a complete schedule (i.e. doesn’t have a 3rd period)

  2. If a student is missing a particular core class (i.e. doesn’t have Math or Science)

  3. If a student is enrolled in the wrong level class (i.e. an 8th grader enrolled in a 7th grade class)

After the above issues are corrected, we help with concerns about electives. Regarding electives, please remember:

  1. If a student chose a particular elective (or alternate), they are required to keep it.

  2. If students are in an elective that they did not choose, changes will be based on availability of other electives that fit within a student’s schedule.

  3. For concerns about electives, students need to let their counselor know within the first week of school. (We do not change electives mid-semester.)

If you have a schedule question, please contact your school counselor:

Student Last Name L – Z: Tim Suchsland suchslandt@rsd407.org

We appreciate your patience as we address these time-sensitive concerns!
